Understanding
Glycolic Acid

What is it?

+ A chemical exfoliant from the Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) family

+ The AHA with the smallest molecular size (e.g. Lactic, Citric and Mandelic Acids all have larger molecules)

+ Because of the small molecular size it penetrates deeper than other AHAs

+ It stimulates the skin’s own production of Collagen and Hyaluronic Acid

The results speak for themselves

Glycolic Acid Myths

I have sensitive skin so I can’t use Glycolic Acid

All skin types can use Glycolic Acid provided the skin’s barrier protection is healthy enough to support it. For acid newbies, Glycolic Acid should be introduced gradually, building tolerance over time.

It is best to always use a high percentage Glycolic product

The bioavailability of acids is based on both the acid percentage and the pH. Look for a low pH for optimal penetration and efficacy.

Glycolic Acid thins the skin

Whilst incorrect use of chemical exfoliants can cause a compromised skin barrier, when used correctly, Glycolic Acid encourages healthy skin cell turnover for a luminous, resilient complexion.

I can't use Glycolic Acid because I work outside most days

Chemical exfoliants are best used in the evening. To protect your skin and get the best results, you should be wearing broad spectrum SPF 50+ every day.

How to incorporate into your routine

+ Start slowly by introducing Glycolic Acid into your regular routine 1-2 nights per week

+ Leave a couple of days in between for your skin to recover

+ Gradually build up to a max of 4 exfoliating evenings per week

Be sure to start your routine with a pH balanced, non-foaming cleanser, and in the morning a daily SPF is non-negotiable!
